Susannah Peddie, a woman with a heart for vintage charm and a knack for quirky reinvention, loves to find beautiful objects and turn them into purses. Her eyes sparkled with an idea as she delicately lifted a weathered Punch Cigar Box from Uniquities Consignment in Gainesville, FL. Once home with her treasure, she sat amidst a kaleidoscope of beads, buttons, and forgotten treasures and went to work.
She envisioned transforming the beautiful box into a unique, conversation-starting purse. From her overflowing collection, she began selecting embellishments. A cascade of amethyst beads from various disassembled necklaces would form the handle. A delicate butterfly brooch, its wings shimmering with iridescent enamel, would adorn the front of the box. She used her treasured Matisse bird earring she purchsed at The Louvre in 1996 (one has been lost for 20+ years, but she saved the lone survivor because she loved it). Antique buttons adorn the fastening of the beautiful necklace-like handle. The midcentury modern repurposed brooches and gorgeous elephant were purchased at antique stores. The bottom of the purse is protected with 4 heavy-duty mahjong pieces. Susannah worked with meticulous care, each element thoughtfully placed.
As she worked, Susannah felt a connection to the past, breathing new life into forgotten objects. Each piece had its own history, its own story, and now they were coming together to create something beautiful and unexpected.
