The Story of a Book Purse

The Story of a Book Purse

More Than a Bag, It's a Story: The Man in Full Book Purse

Ever wondered what a purse made from a book would look like? Well, wonder no more!

This isn't just any book purse, it's a conversation starter, a testament to creativity, and a journey through Gainesville's finest thrifting spots. Almost 20 years ago, the creative Susannah Peddie embarked on a mission to transform everyday objects into extraordinary purses. A unique book at Gainesville's Book Gallery West caught her eye – Tom Wolfe's A Man in Full with its art printed directly on the cover.

And so, the first book purse was born! Though that initial creation was gifted away, the memory (and the book!) remained. Fast forward to today, Susannah rediscovered her copy of "A Man in Full" (and learned it's now a Netflix miniseries), inspiring her to recreate this iconic piece.

But what makes this purse truly special is the story woven into its very fabric (literally!). Susannah embarked on a treasure hunt across Gainesville, seeking the perfect embellishments. Her quest led her to:

And the adorable hedgehog clasp? That's Hedgie, originally part of a pair of earrings gifted by Susannah's friend, designer Jacquelyn Manfredi. (Fun fact: Hedgie even had a brief stay at Susannah's house).

This book purse is more than just an accessory; it's a testament to Susannah's creativity, resourcefulness, and the power of repurposing. It's a reminder that inspiration can be found anywhere, and sometimes, the most unexpected objects can hold the most captivating stories.
